Buffalo Parks & Gardens
Hennepin Park is named for Father Louis Hennepin, who was the first European to see Niagara Falls. It is a small green space that has been used for everything from ice skating to jogging, along with other recreational activities.
Tifft Nature Preserve features 265 acres of trails and boardwalks, man made lakes and a 75-acre fresh water marsh. It serves as the environmental education site for the Buffalo Museum of Science, and offers hiking, picnicking, birdwatching, and cross-country skiing in the winter.
Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens are set in an 1890s Victorian domed glass conservatory. The gardens feature plants and flowers from all over the world. Among the collections are herbs as well as an orchid and bromeliad house. Other landscape features include a waterfall. Annual seasonal shows are also held here.
The Buffalo zoo is the third largest zoo in the United States. Endangered, exotic, and local wildlife roam freely in the modest enclosures.
Cazenovia Park is a large green space located on the south side of Buffalo. There is a swimming pool and a year round skating rink here, as well as a nine hole golf course. It is also a popular spot for lunching.
